These beautiful books are collections of haiku, tanka (a form of Japanese poetry), and illustrations from Giselle Maya and other contemporary poets and artists. The poems and images are printed in France, on speckled handmade papers and then bound by Judy Lynn in the United States. Currently, the books come in two binding styles, the soft cover side-sewn and the hardcover case binding. Cover papers vary, and tend to be simple, natural papers in keeping with the minimalism and elegance of the printed words.
Giselle Maya has published fifteen volumes of collected works from Koyama Press in Saint Martin de Castillon, France where she lives. The books cover themes from “Birds & Felines” to “The Tao of Water”. The writings are in English and some titles also include translations into French, Japanese and German. Each book and subject offers a striking and unique meditation on the simple pleasures of life.
